score and parts
The “Three Romances” by Robert Schumann, composed in 1849 and set for oboe and piano, are undoubtedly among the gems of oboe literature. Hans-Peter Frank has now presented the result of his considerations to reinterpret the piano part for three strings (violin, viola, cello).
The oboe world will consider itself extremely lucky to be able to establish these three romances in concert life thanks to the new colors that the three strings bring with them. In the repertoire of the oboe quartet (oboe, violin, viola, cello), this is a very welcome addition to the otherwise narrow, romantic literature. The precise, sensitive transmission will make this variant a great pleasure for players and listeners.
